As with transportation,
lodging is at the AO’s discretion for the most
part. The AO directs and authorizes the lodging type
that meets mission requirements if you (uniformed members
only) are ordered to a U.S. installation.
You must make lodging reservations through DTS and the
CTO, whenever possible. An estimate of the cost (including
taxes) is provided on the should-cost estimate.
Government Quarters
You are encouraged to use government quarters if available.
The AO may not direct DOD civilians to use government
quarters, though they may direct uniformed members to
do so, provided they are TDY to a U.S. installation
(example: TDY to Ft. Sam Houston), not to a city (TDY
to San Antonio), and the government quarters are on
the U.S. installation to which they were sent TDY.
If the AO directs use of government quarters, but a
uniformed traveler uses other lodging, the uniformed
traveler may only be reimbursed up to the government
quarters’ cost unless the voucher or ‘should-cost’
reflects a quarters non-availability number.
Commercial Lodging
When you stay in commercial lodging, if government quarters
are not available, the AO must authorize this lodging
(e.g., hotel). You are reimbursed for the single occupancy
rate, up to the maximum per diem rate (lodging and M&IE)
for the TDY (or stopover point if travel is over several
days). |
