You may
authorize, but may not direct, the use of a rental vehicle.
A compact vehicle is the standard unless the mission
dictates otherwise. You may authorize a larger vehicle
for many reasons, including:
 |
 |
 |
Multiple travelers |
| |
 |
|
Significant amount of equipment |
| |
 |
|
Physical size of traveler |
| |
 |
|
Mission-related need for another
class of vehicle (e.g., van, SUV) |
|
|
You must authorize the traveler to be reimbursed for
all rental costs associated with the rental: taxes,
local assessments, gas/oil, and transportation to and
from the rental agency, except any charge for getting
frequent traveler credit for the rental vehicle.
The traveler should rent vehicles from an agency
with a Surface Deployment and Distribution Command
(SDDC) agreement. (DTS only lists agencies that have
such agreements.)
SDDC agreements include a collision damage waiver
coverage in the rental rate, so you should only approve
additional insurance coverage on rentals in foreign
countries, when the coverage is mandatory.
