The traveler
must comply with federal and departmental ethics rules.
Travelers
may keep items of nominal value (usually
less than $20.00) from non-federal sources.
Travelers
may use frequent traveler benefits obtained
on official travel for their personal use.
These items
and benefits must be received under the
same terms as they were offered to members
of the general public, and must not incur
any additional expense to the government.
Travelers
may keep any benefits received from voluntarily
vacating a seat on an overbooked flight.
However, they should not vacate a seat if
vacating the seat would negatively affect
the mission or incur any additional cost
to the government.
For
more information on ethics rules, DOD personnel
should see Joint Ethics Regulation,
DOD 5500.7-R, Chapter 4.
