Traveler Responsibilities
A DTS Traveler is any DoD civilian or military member who uses the Defense Travel System to create authorizations (orders), vouchers, and local vouchers for TDY/TAD trips.

The traveler assumes the following responsibilities:

bullet Provide to the AO (for retention as records to substantiate certified travel claims) original receipts, electronic receipts filed with the travel claim, or a signed statement for missing receipts for all lodging expenses, and for all individual reimbursable expenses of $75 or more

bullet   Electronically sign and forward the completed travel claim to the AO

bullet   Prepare itinerary amendments and all post-trip settlement claims

bullet   Provide justification to the AO in the comments field of the authorization, amendment, or voucher for variations from policy and or any substantial variances between the authorized “should cost” estimate and the final travel claim

bullet   Maintain an up-to-date traveler profile in DTS

legal document The traveler is liable for any false or fraudulent written or oral statements under the False Claims Act (18 U.S.C. 287, 18 U.S.C. 1001 and 31 U.S.C. 3729).
